MEKRA Lang invests in Ergersheim site

Review - Ergersheim on October 21, 2019: Following the ground-breaking ceremony in October 2018, MEKRA Lang GmbH & Co. KG celebrated the topping-out ceremony for its new, modern administration building in Ergersheim, district of Neustadt a.d.Aisch-Bad Windsheim, on 20.09.2019 in the presence of guests from politics, administration and trade. The children of the Frieda Lang House opened the ceremony with a craftsman's song, which was followed by thanks from the architect, Mr. Schurig. Georg Gerhäuser, the owner of the construction company, spoke the sentence in the form of a poem and the traditional throwing of the glass followed, the shards of which were supposed to bring luck. After the blessing by the Ergersheimer priest Bauer and to the joy of the children from the Frieda Lang house it "rained" sweets at the end.

The main users of the new, 3300m² building are the research and development departments of MEKRA Lang in the fields of electronics and camera systems. As the world's leading manufacturer of mirror systems for commercial vehicles, MEKRA Lang is once again clearly committed to the Ergersheim site.

Innovative vision systems, such as the multiple award-winning DVS (Digital VisionSystem), a mirror replacement system, also increase the associated need for development. The investment in the new building enables MEKRA Lang to pool the expertise of all departments involved in research and development at one location and to exploit synergies. In order to optimally support this and to be prepared for the requirements of the future, the administration building has various technical facilities that support the development process. For example, most of the basement will be used as a laboratory and will be equipped with a chamber for electromagnetic compatibility tests.

However, the heart of the new administration building is the walk-through green area, which is completely enclosed by the building. The building, designed by the architectural office Löser+Körner Architekten+Generalplaner GmbH, Nuremberg, thus brings nature inside for every workplace.

In line with MEKRA Lang's claim not only to meet but even to exceed environmental and energy management requirements wherever possible, the new building relies on state-of-the-art technology in terms of energy efficiency and sustainability. This can be seen, for example, in the supply of the building: by connecting it to MEKRA's own local heating network, the new administration building is heated in an environmentally friendly way. This local heating network obtains its heat from the production waste heat from two active blast furnaces in the production halls of LANG Technics GmbH & Co. KG and a peak load gas boiler of 225 kW. Thus, the new building does not have its own heating system, but instead mainly relies on the recovery of waste heat from production processes. 85 % of the heat required for the new building is covered by this waste heat, the rest is provided by the peak load boiler.

The move to the new building took place at the beginning of 2020.
