Turn more safely with the MEKRA Lang turn-off assistant

Safety on the road: MEKRA Lang GmbH & Co. KG is putting an advanced collision avoidance system based on a 24 GHz radar system on the road with the AAS 1312 turn-off assistant. The system, which was developed in cooperation with PRECO Electronics, increases the safety of vulnerable road users when turning right and has recently also won an ADAC test.

Unclear driving situations no longer await truck drivers only in cities; traffic is also increasing in villages and in rural areas, and drivers are challenged more than ever. Especially when turning right, it has been shown that electronic assistance for the driver can help prevent accidents. This is where MEKRA Lang comes in and offers the AAS 1312 turn-off assistant, a side monitoring system that supports the driver.

The radar system detects objects in a zone to the side of the vehicle that exceeds the requirements. The AAS 1312 thus creates increased safety for vulnerable road users such as cyclists, pedestrians or even e-scooter drivers.

As the ADAC test winner in a comparison of different truck turn-off assistance systems, the AAS 1312 turn-off assistant was not only convincing on the test site, but also while driving in real road traffic. The ADAC testers were particularly impressed by the low rate of positive false activations and the ability to distinguish between moving, unprotected road users and other stationary objects. The modular system meets the requirements of the recommendation for the turn-off assistant according to the traffic bulletin of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (BMVI). Due to the general type approval (ABE) granted by the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), the AAS 1312 is eligible for funding under the "Turning Assistant Campaign" of Federal Minister Andreas Scheuer for vehicles over 3.5t.

MEKRA Lang relies on product components from PRECO Electronics that have proven themselves over many years and are used hundreds of thousands of times worldwide in construction and commercial vehicles. Thanks to its modular design, the AAS 1312 turn-off assistant can be optimally supplemented with a camera-monitor system. This enables the driver to additionally identify the objects detected by the radar by visual contact. The interaction of this blind spot assistant can be purchased separately and is eligible for funding. The AAS 1312 turn-off assistant and camera monitor systems can be purchased from the subsidiary MEKRAtronics GmbH.
