Not a disability, but an addition - Down syndrome exhibition at MEKRA Lang in Ergersheim

MEKRA Lang Managing Partner Susanne Lang opened the "Trisomy 21 at home" exhibition on the company premises with the words "Why are people with Down's syndrome actually called disabled?". These people often have a special talent and can achieve similar things to the so-called norm in other areas.

Quite a few people were emotionally moved when viewing the beautiful photo exhibition. Portraits showed the children in their private surroundings. The parents wrote moving texts about the diagnosis, initial reactions and life with their children who have Down's syndrome. The pictures and texts show that a rich and beautiful family life is possible even with the "addition".

Colorful and extensive supporting program

The idea of a photo exhibition came from the Ansbach Down syndrome group. When Susanne Lang was approached with the idea, she was immediately enthusiastic: "The fates of these people are particularly close to my heart. We therefore support all efforts to accompany those affected through life." All proceeds from the event will therefore be doubled by MEKRA Lang and donated to the Down syndrome InfoCenter and the Diakoneo early intervention center.

The event also offered the opportunity to talk to experts from Lebenshilfe Neustadt/Aisch-Bad Windsheim, Lebenshilfe Werkstätten Ansbach and Diakoneo Frühförderstelle about trisomy 21 and to exchange ideas with parents.

With the turntable ladder of the Uffenheim volunteer fire department, there was the opportunity to catch a unique view over Ergersheim and the surrounding area. A bouncy castle was set up for the children. SpVgg Greuther Fürth offered goal wall shooting and brought along their mascot Eddy, who was available for photos of all kinds. A ride on the Vision Truck was also possible.

At the hearing, seeing, smelling, tasting, feeling and touching stations, children were able to test their senses and complete various tasks.

A total of around 500 people attended the event. A day on which inclusion was truly lived, fears of contact were removed and the topic of Down syndrome was de-tabooed.

What made this day special was the joint commitment of all those present. We would like to thank Gartenwelt Dauchenbeck, Blütenenergien nach Dr. Bach, Frieda Lang Haus, SpVgg Greuther Fürth, Hartmann, Diakoneo, Lebenshilfe Neustadt/Aisch-Bad Windsheim, West-Mittelfränkische Lebenshilfe Werkstätten Ansbach, Metallbau Rentz, Genusswerk and the Uffenheim volunteer fire department as well as the parents of the Ansbach Down syndrome group!
