MEKRA turn-off assistant with ULS nominated for Automechanika Innovation Award

The MEKRA turn-off assistant AAS 1312 with underrun protection (ULS) has been nominated for the Innovation Award at Automechanika.

It can make a significant contribution to greater safety on the road. If, for example, a person enters the danger zone when unloading a trash can, the driver is informed acoustically by the independent activation of the ULS function.

The system can thus warn of serious collisions between the boom, the garbage can and people. The driver is prompted to stop the loading process immediately.

The great advantage of the AAS 1312 in combination with a ULS is that both functions - the turn-off assistant and the ULS - are realized with only one radar sensor. In principle, the radar sensor functions like a turn-off assistant while the vehicle is moving or stationary, and the AAS 1312 only switches to underrun protection mode during the loading process.

Particularly with left-hand drive side loaders, the driver's view on the right-hand side is severely restricted, which can often result in a high potential for stress. The system thus supports the driver, who usually operates the vehicle alone, in monitoring the side area.

The aim of the system is to protect not only unprotected road users (e.g. cyclists), but also the driver. A serious accident with personal injuries often leads to psychological trauma and even to occupational disability of the injured person and the driver.

Fleet operators can thus support their employees and reduce accident costs.
