The renaissance of a classic - Günter Lang Schafkopf memorial tournament in the MEKRA Lang cafeteria

On Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, 120 enthusiastic Schafkopf players met in the MEKRA Lang cafeteria to indulge their passion. As part of the cultural weeks celebrating the 90th anniversary of the global expert for vision systems, the 1st Günter Lang Schafkopf Memorial Tournament took place.

At the beginning, the game master presented the rules specially developed for MEKRA Lang, which initially caused some confusion among the players: Wenz, Geier, Hochzeit, Schneiderfrei from 30 or from 31 points, and so on. Here it became clear how complex the game of "Schafkopf" actually is and that it is interpreted differently from region to region. In the end, it was possible to agree on a uniform set of rules and the first of two rounds â 32 games could begin.

During the breaks in the game, the participants were able to fortify themselves with delicious snacks from the MEKRA canteen. After 1,920 games, some of which were nerve-wracking, the winner was finally decided shortly before 0 o'clock. The winner was Michael Kober, who was delighted to receive a grill from Hartmann worth EUR 600.

The entire proceeds from the tournament went to MEKRA Ukrainehilfe. All in all, the 1st Günter Lang Memorial Tournament was a complete success and will hopefully be repeated.
